Recruited for Global Research in AR with Silicon Valley Start-Up
I'm reaching out, as I feel your organization’s members could be a great fit for our research project on examining behavioral changes in immersive experiences, a Global First Student-Led Research Project with top talents from UC Berkeley, Stanford, and more!
I'm Tommaso Di Bartolo, a Silicon Valley-based entrepreneur (two startups successfully exited), a 2x author (including "Navigating the Metaverse," published in 2022), and academia (as a faculty member at UC Berkeley focusing on Web3). I'm also involved in startup investing.
It's important to me that you're aware of this project, which could involve your contribution among a select group of students from top U.S. colleges. The project spans 8 weeks, and there are currently only 10 openings left. For more information and to apply, please visit https://bit.ly/Exclusive-Immersive-Research. IBM Accelerate Accepting Applications Now!
Happy New Year! My name is Dimitra and I am a University Pipeline Program Manager at IBM. I am reaching out to share that applications have opened for our signature summer experience, the IBM Accelerate Program.
About the Program
IBM Accelerate is an early career readiness summer program dedicated to undergraduates of all backgrounds with a focus on networking with peers from across the U.S. and IBM employees, coaching from industry experts, learning the fundamentals of working in the technology industry, and personal career development. While all undergraduate students are eligible for program participation, our curriculum is developed specifically for current university sophomores. Because this is a learning-experience program, this is an unpaid opportunity developed to supplement participants’ coursework and other summer activities.
Applicants will be able to rank their top preferences in their application from the following career tracks: Client Engineering & Technical Sales, Consulting, Design, Marketing and Communications, Research, and Software Developer.
IBM Accelerate runs June 3rd through July 24th, 2024 and is led by subject matter experts at IBM. All sessions will be delivered three-hours a week, virtually, in the evening (7-8pm ET on Mondays and 6-8pm ET on Wednesdays). Check out our Accelerate Program recap video for a glimpse into what the summer experience is all about!

“I am running a peer mentorship program that matches students in the core intro CS courses (183, 203, 280, 281) with more senior students who have already been through those courses. The focus is on community building and supporting students as they begin their journey through CSE.”
Surgical Innovation Discovery Course- Seeking CS Students
Hi Everyone,
My name is Adrianna Kallabat. I am a Junior at Umich studying Neuroscience. I wanted to share an opportunity that the members of Girls in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science might be interested in .
In this year’s Surgical Innovation Discovery Course (SIDC), you will be able to apply your computer science skills to one of the 5 teams of medical students and surgical residents working on biomedical design projects. The team descriptions are in the program details below, and applications are due January 26th. Feel free to reach out (akalla@umich.edu) if you have any questions!
See below for program details:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SIDC is an interactive hybrid 8-week course that will use fast-fail rapid prototyping and customer discovery to help trainees quickly refine and de-risk novel ideas. By the end of the course, participants will have thoroughly explored their idea, have up to two low-fidelity prototypes, and will be able to convey the potential impact of their idea on surgical care or patient outcomes. Projects range from medical device and AI/ML to improving medical education. You can read more about project teams here.
The CSI provides coaching, prototyping funds (up to $500 per team), and educational resources to assist project teams every step of the way.
Applications to join a team are due 1/26 and our hybrid course starts with an in-person workshop on 2/6 from 1pm – 3pm. All other participation will be asynchronous, hybrid, or in a location determined by your team. A final in-person presentation date will be selected in April.
Inquiries about this course can be directed to Candice Stegink (cstegink@med.umich.edu) and Liam Matthews (liammatt@umich.edu)
WISE Mix and Mingle
The Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Program is hosting its 3rd annual Mix and Mingle event for current and aspiring leaders from student organizations that are closely aligned with the WISE mission.
We invite you to join us on January 26th from 3:00-4:30 pm at the WISE Office located at 3236 Undergraduate Science Building. During the event, you'll have the opportunity to meet with WISE staff members and learn about the various projects on campus that work to foster gender equity in STEM. We'll have snacks available and time for you to get to know each other. To attend, please RSVP at this link by 11:59 pm on January 23rd.
Through this Mix and Mingle, we hope to find opportunities for collaboration and mission overlap with student groups interested in working towards STEM Equity. We'll engage in bi-directional dialogues to hear from departments that are invested in STEM Equity, their mission, values, and engagement goals for the next year. We also hope to learn about your unique student group network, including the resource opportunities and hurdles of your constituents.
This invitation is extended to current and aspiring leaders within your organization. Meet our staff members and learn more about WISE programs. We will have light refreshments, take-and-go desserts, and special opportunities for student group leaders. Please RSVP at Sessions.
We look forward to seeing you!
Eric on behalf of the whole WISE Team.
