Stryker’s Industry Day Invite
Happy Wednesday, I hope you’re having a great week so far! I’m reaching out to let you know that registration is officially open for Stryker’s Industry Day which will take place on March 15th, 2024. Please see attached for the official flyer which will include the registration link. We’re excited to be planning a first ever “Industry Day” for students to come and visit our building in Kalamazoo, MI (bussing paid for and provided by Stryker).
You’ll see in the attached flyer we’re planning a full day including networking with our Employee Resource Groups, a tour of our building, a product demonstration, and hearing from current Stryker employees who are UM alum about their journey from college to Stryker. The goal of this event is to provide students with an in-depth view of our organization in hopes that they can learn more about opportunities such as our 2025 internship program. As a part of an accepted registration, you’ll see that a guaranteed phone interview with a member of Stryker’s University Relations team is also included – so it’s a great opportunity for students who are looking to get a head start on the 2025 summer internship season.
We are officially opening registration today (please see the attachment) and I’m hopeful that some UM-GEECS members would have interest in joining us for the day. If you could please distribute this digital flyer to your mailing list, with an emphasis on current Freshman & Sophomores, we would really appreciate it!
Please let me know if you have any questions, and otherwise have a great rest of your week!
Opportunity- Ethics Discussion Series
Questions can be directed to Kat Basile at kbasile@umich.edu.
Discussion Series: Will engineers repeat history?
As engineers, we often look at the future for inspiration on how we can shape our world today. However, we can gain so much knowledge from looking back at the past too. Join us in a peer-to-peer discussion to talk about the past, present, and future of engineering. This discussion will focus on historical projects and their technical and moral similarities and differences to projects today. We will discuss ethics, equity, and sustainability in engineering practices and how we would like to apply those principles while we are changing the world. Each session will focus on a different topic, and more information on each topic will be provided, so no prior knowledge is required. Snacks will also be provided.
Discussion Dates:
1/24
2/14
3/06
3/20
4/03
4/17
Time: 6:00- 7:00 PM
Location: BBB 1690
Opportunity- Latinx Research Week 2024
Puentes is a graduate student organization that aims to center the experiences and needs of Latinx graduate students across schools and disciplines at the University of Michigan. In pursuit of this goal, Puentes annually hosts Latinx Research Week (LRW). LRW is a conference that celebrates the scholarship of Latinx students, researchers, and faculty at U-M, and uplifts research relevant to Latinx communities. LRW provides a unique, interdisciplinary space where scholars across campus can share their research and build new connections. From March 11 to March 14, 2024, researchers will showcase their work through oral presentation sessions, a poster session, as well as attend other sponsored events.
If you are interested in presenting your research, please fill out this form by Friday, January 26th, at 5:00pm. Submissions must include a title and 250-word abstract or description of your work. From research proposals to published work, submissions from any stage of the research process are valued and considered equally. We also encourage scholars from all levels and disciplines to submit their work; undergraduates, graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, research staff, and faculty! Virtual presentations can be accommodated if needed. All student presenters will be awarded a certificate and entered to win raffle prizes in recognition of their contributions to their field.
For more information about our conference please go to our webpage here. For the latest updates, join our mailing list here. Please disseminate this information among your networks. For questions concerning Latinx Research Week, please write to puentes.admin@umich.edu.
Request for Engagement in Leaders & Honors Awards Committees
Hello, and Happy New Year! We are the student organizers of the 2024 College of Engineering Leaders and Honors Awards. This annual event brings together engineering students demonstrating outstanding academic success and character at the University of Michigan to celebrate their achievements through the Leaders and Honors Awards. We invite you to serve on a committee to select the winners of these awards(a summary of awards may be found here).
After a selective application process, the applicants are narrowed down to several qualified candidates for interview. The winners are chosen by a three-person committee consisting of one undergraduate student, one graduate student, and one faculty member. Most awards involve interviewing the candidates; thus, committee members will meet together to interview the finalists and choose a winner. Committees will meet one time over Zoom between February 5–9.
We invite you to apply to serve on one of these committees by completing the form at tbpmig.org/honorscommittee2024. We appreciate any assistance you are willing to offer; to thank you for your participation, all committee members will receive an invitation to the Leaders and Honors Brunch on Sunday, March 24.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at honorsbrunch2024@umich.edu.
Sincerely,
2024 Leaders and Honors Awards Student Organizers

GEECS Invited to Michigan Undergraduate Consulting Conference
My name is Michelle Jiang, and I'm reaching out on behalf of the Michigan Undergraduate Consulting Conference (MUCC) hosted by Nexecon Consulting Group, which will be happening March 29th, 2024, at the Ross School of Business.
MUCC is a great opportunity to interact with recruiters, associates/analysts, and partners from top-tier consulting firms. Every year, firms that attend love meeting students who are as excited about impactful work as they are. This year's theme is Innovate to Elevate: Adapting to a Dynamic World, which represents the conference's goal to inspire students to explore outside-of-the-box ideas and pioneer new paths within ever-changing landscapes(business and non-business), and I think that members of GEECS could really benefit from this valuable experience.
Tickets can be purchased here.
Our team is really looking forward to having you!
Still on the fence about attending MUCC? Here are some key ways attendees can benefit from this year's event:
Attending the largest undergraduate consulting conference in the country
Submitting a resume to be put in a resume book sent to all of the participating firms for spring and fall opportunities
Participating in themed workshops previously run by firm reps and recruiters from McKinsey, Bain, BCG, and PwC Strategy&, among others
Attending networking events to speak more with firm reps and recruiters
Participating in the MUCC case competition, with the opportunity to present in front of representatives from our partner firm as well as win up to $500 in prize money
Visit this link to learn more about the case competition and register.
You may not participate in the case competition unless you have already purchased a MUCC ticket.
Additional Resources:

The Astronaut Scholarship, founded in 1984 by the Mercury 7 astronauts, is open to exceptional rising juniors and seniors pursuing STEM degrees and has an award value of up to $15,000 per school year. You can find out more about the history of the scholarship here.
In addition to the monetary value of the scholarship, the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation connects current Astronaut Scholars and Astronaut Scholar alum with mentorship and networking opportunities that go far beyond your average scholarship. Many Astronaut Scholars are offered internships and jobs in their disciplines due to the connections made by ASF. Some go on to grad school and some have even started their own businesses!
If you have any questions or need further information, please reach out to Henry Dyson, Astronaut Scholarship Foundation university liaison, at onsf.info@umich.edu.
Please feel free to share this prestigious scholarship opportunity with other students studying STEM at your university. The ASF application deadline is quickly approaching, so connect with your university’s ASF liaison for more information on how you may qualify for the scholarship.
